ALLERTON PARK NEAR MONTICELLO, IL WAS HIS HOME AND THE PLACE IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.

One of the original big business men. At the turn of the century Mr Allerton cornered the hog market and started the 1st Natl bank in CHICAGO..

This is my home away from home. A beautiful public park that is quiet, meditative, and artistic. You can make it an upscale outing or completely casual all depending on what you want to make this park. I recommend it to everyone visiting. This is a must see- a jewel of central Illinois.

Perfect location for a retreat. Excellent accommodations for overnight. Food was great and the staff very friendly and helpful.

Oh yeah..this place is super cool, just go hang out on the lawn and be in a Colorado State of mind. Not as many statues stand as the original owner had many more, but the public didn't take care and many of the statues were damaged. A shameful scar to be put upon society for sure. That being said this is a place of beauty that no one should deny themselves. You can even spend the night at several of the grounds buildings.

In my opinion, this is a top ten outdoor destination in the state of Illinois. The park offers over 20 miles of picturesque hiking trails that wind through a gorgeous wooded park. Not to mention the mansion, beautiful formal gardens and stunning Sun Singer colossus statue and Death of the Last Centuar statue. Great place for a day trip with family or a walk, hike or run for a couple or single!
